Birds is our specialty and profession so our birds would not get in contact with other animals. Please find on the external link page a link to the IATA website for more information. Zwijnenberg Bird-Farm works according the annually published Live Animal Regulations for transport of animals (LAR). Clients can rely on the fact that the birds are transported professionally and breeders can rely on the fact that their offspring is treated with respect and care.
We work according to the regulations of the IATA. What are the requirements for airline approved bird travel carriers? IATA, the International Air Travel association specifies minimum requirements for transporting animals.
Approved bird travel carriers must comply with the following standards:
Size: Bird travel carriers must be of sufficient height to allow your bird to perch naturally without its head or tail touching the top or bottom. Perch: A wooden perch of appropriate diameter will be firmly attached inside of the bird travel carrier.
Door: The door on the bird carrier will be easy to open from the outside yet secure enough to keep the bird inside. All bird travel carriers that have doors that provide ventilation.
Interior: Bird travel carriers will have a solid, leak-proof floor. Floors are covered with litter or absorbent lining. Wire or other ventilated sub floors are generally allowed, so we use that possibility. These requirements provide the maximum cleanliness for the birds during travel. All internal edges on the bird travel carrier will be smooth with no sharp projections.
Ventilation: The bird travel carrier are well ventilated with openings.
Our bird travel carriers are marked "live animals" on the top and one side with directional arrows indicating proper position of the bird carrier.
